The UK’s healthcare estate is at a turning point. Aging facilities, the legacy of Covid-19, and unprecedented political investment have combined to create both urgency and opportunity. The task is not simply to build new hospitals, but to rethink how they are designed, configured, and experienced.
Future HealthSpaces was founded in response to this challenge. Rooted in healthcare construction, it convenes NHS Trusts, clinicians, designers, engineers, contractors, and specialist suppliers to reflect, refine, and advance thinking around healthcare environments. Its programming spans the sector’s most pressing themes—from infection prevention and digital integration to standardisation, carbon reduction, and programme delivery.
Our Innovation Hub, in the heart of London, represents the next step in this mission. Centred on a full-scale prototype of a single patient bedroom with ensuite, it provides a living laboratory in which to test the details most directly within industry influence: fixtures, fittings, and finishes. Independent in focus yet developed in constructive dialogue with the New Hospital Programme, it complements national frameworks by exploring how interiors feel and function in practice.

The Hub has been realised through the collaboration of Future HealthSpaces’ subscribers, whose expertise spans the supply chain: Hygenius, KWC DVS, Ocura, Ascom, Rockfon, Mansfield Pollard, Tarkett, Onvo Modular, Yewdale, Altro, Airwave Healthcare, Thorlux Lighting, Specialist Door Solutions(SDS) and Innova Care Concepts. Each brings practical insight to the conversation, helping shape healthcare environments that are modern, resilient, and patient-centred.
In this way, Future HealthSpaces continues to provide not just discussion, but tangible platforms for testing, learning, and collective progress in healthcare design.
